Owasso, OK 10/15/25 — A powerful new life-sized bronze statue honoring Lt. Col. Dan Rooney, founder of Folds of Honor, and Jacob Green, the young boy whose story inspired the nonprofit’s creation, has been delivered and installed by Bronze Depot, a leading creator of custom bronze monuments nationwide.

The statue captures the defining moment that forever changed Rooney’s life — and helped launch one of America’s most impactful veteran support organizations. In 2007, Rooney was returning home from his second tour in Iraq when he witnessed a flag-draped casket being unloaded from his commercial flight. Inside was the body of Corporal Brock Bucklin, a fallen U.S. Army soldier. On the tarmac below, Bucklin’s son, Jacob, stood solemnly as he received his father’s folded American flag.

That heartbreaking image moved Rooney to action, inspiring him to found Folds of Honor — a nonprofit dedicated to providing scholarships and educational support to the spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members. Since its founding, Folds of Honor has awarded more than 62,000 scholarships and continues to transform lives across the country.
