When bronze is exposed to air and moisture over time, it will eventually acquire small green layers known as patina. Initially, the patinated bronze appears rather inviting. Letting the bronze patinate naturally happens slowly, taking four to seven years to start.
From the moment as the process begins, it begins to accumulate throughout the statues bring out an undesirable effect, known as the spot effect. However, when the process is finalized, the entire bronze should take on a green patina. If you wish to subdue the spotting effect, we advise waxing interior sculptures once a year or twice to three times a year for outdoor sculptures.
Cleaning Indoor Sculptures
Dust debris off your sculpture with a soft cloth. For textured areas, a paintbrush having soft bristles can be used and very dirty particles may be carefully removed using a moist cloth. After the sculpture has dried, carefully apply a thick layer of hard-paste furniture wax using a soft bristle brush. The patina might darken when first applied but should return to its natural color when the wax dries. Let it sit for about five to ten minutes, then gently buff with a soft cloth. Repeat this process as often as required to get the outcome you want.
Maintaining Outdoor Sculptures
1. Wash the sculpture with soapy water and a fiber brush until all dirt is gone, then, give it a final rinse.
2. Make sure all of the water has been drained from the sculpture by drying it thoroughly with towels or in the open sun.
3. After removing all of the water, ensure that the sculpture is cooled before applying the paste wax. The patina may darken when first applied, but it should return to its natural color as the wax dries.
4. Let it stand for five to ten minutes, then gently buff it back with a soft cloth.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you’ve achieved the result that you want.
Recommended Waxes: Johnson Wax, or Kiwi shoe polish.
